Once upon a time, I thought "FAQs" were pronounced like Facts with a Michigan accent. Here are some facs for you.
Who? Hannah-- Christian / College student / Canadian citizen undercover in Michigan.
What [is this blog about]? Everything and nothing. I don't mean that in an I-try-to-be-profound-but-fail sort of way. I'm sure by now you've seen hundreds of dull blogs where the author tries their hardest to be clever. Meanwhile you've noticed a direct negative correlation between desperation and the quality of a blog. Soon it will be about France. Until then... this is a chance for me to hone my blogging skills. It's kind of like my own personal therapy. Writing just feels good. That might be weird to you, but people run for fun so there you go. My head seems to run on constant autopilot narration, and the easiest way to get my brain to stop chattering monologues is to write out my thoughts. I'm not the best at writing but I'd like to imagine myself as an author of fascinating [books? movies? Bible tracts?] one day... and the only way to get from here to there is through practice.
Why? I started this blog in anticipation of my semester in Grenoble next fall, but couldn't seem to hold off until then. Maybe folks will actually start leaving me little appreciative comments when I am off in a foreign country. Until then, I'll have to find a way to make Grand Rapids a comment-worthy place to be.
I haven't really told anyone about the site, either-- only bothered to put it at the very bottom of my facebook profile-- I'm still not pleased with it as a comprehensive website/blog to show off to the world, but for now it is fun to play with. (see below)
Why Weebly? I realize the road less traveled is the road least desired in the blogging world. Little-or-unknown formated sites aren't able to draw in as large of an audience, or be passed as easily among peers. But Weebly has a few things going for it: 1.) Simplicity 2.) You don't have to join to leave comments (hint!)-- unlike shutterfly, xanga, etc. 3.) Interesting designs (this site being a case in point). Maybe this comes with the (unknown) territory, but their layouts are different and attractive. I've tweaked this one a little myself... haven't quite got the hang of html, but playing around is kind of fun.
